My Mile High Surround Sound
November 6th, 2008 · No Comments
When my son was a mere babe of babies, I got this Sony 6.1 Surround Sound receiver. I just threw it in as a replacement to my old pro logic unit and bought large speakers over the years at our community garage sales to round out my mismatched system.
From all the toddler ravages over the year, my speaker became disconnected but I forced myself to believe it sounded good with my new HDMI cable and my Comcast High Def connection. After I got my son to school this morning I came back and was surfing the latest and greatest home theaters on the web to see where I had to head next, I had already decided Blue Ray is me and after the holidays I will be there.
Anyway, looking at some cool set-ups on some home theater forum sites I got the itch to tune mine up seeing how I had 5 hours of uninterrupted “me” time to give my system TLC it has never gotten since we moved in pre kid, 8 years ago.
My speakers are anything and everything from 5 Bose small cube speakers, with unpowered sub, 2 KLH speakers twisty speakers without a sub,30 inch MLS floor speakers in front and Sony 36 inch floor speakers in the rear with the small units spread throughout adding directional sound where needed so there is no bad seat in the family room.
I have an HDMI cable running from my Vizio to my Comcast DVR box with a Sony 6.1 Surround Sound receiver muscling it all. My Desk is screen right of my Vizio and with everything now running as it should; I can hear through the booming bass the left rear speaker firing. I got in trouble by the wife when she got home because she could hear it in the garage, Waa I told her, the last I checked it just didn’t care as I don’t care! I’m a big boy the neighbors are at work and it’s just not that loud and everything was good a minute ago. So what’s up?
HDMI makes all the difference in the world, I can watch cable CBS and then hi def CBS and there is no comparison, the sound is so much better and louder and the picture, well, I could Hardly see the scar on Tina Fey’s lower jaw on regular cable and in high def it’s visible. I do not mean to speak harmful of Tina, it’s just a fact of life those things are visible with high def.
I know mix and match speakers are not the best and if you have a problem with it, instead of spreading grief my way, how about sponsoring me so I can get some matching sets? But in all actuality, there is so much you can do to overcome the small quirks with all the adjustments, it just sounds sweet! Adjusting the sound is 1/2 the fun!
TV is now sounding good again on my high def nonexistant income!

Remember When?

In 1967, the price of a Vail’s weekend was $7.50. If the resort’s lift ticket pricing had followed the consumer price index over the next 40 years, the listed ticket price would be approximately $42 - less than half of today’s projected of $92 price.
Among the world’s cheapest destinations, at less than $150 for six days, were resorts in Iran and the former Balkan war zones of Kosovo, Macedonia and the 1984 Winter Olympic city of Sarajevo. Smaller Canadian resorts also made it in at the bottom of the price scale – giving the country the greatest range in ticket prices – with Mont Habitant in Quebec coming in at $149.90. It has three lifts including a quad chair.
The average world six-day, high-season, lift ticket price is: $258.00
The average US six-day, high-season, lift ticket price is: $365.73
