I Want It, I Need It

June 26th, 2008 · 1 Comment

So fellow At Home Dad Joeprah is doing something cool and I need to win! He is giving away, that is rightJoeprah giving away, a Sony DSC-W120 Cyber-Shot Digital Camera and I need to win! My big Sony Mavica camera, which writes to a CD, is sick, the non volatile battery will not hold a charge. Our smaller Cyber-Shot takes forever to capture and that leaves me with my digi video camera to capture stills. I’ve got quite the “after the fact portfolio” captured seconds after the photo op was staged, and you should see my “after the fact portfolio” NOT!! I know waah, but still!

This next generation of digital camera is what I need and check this out! And I quote Joeprah, “Features Smile Shutter™ technology that automatically snaps a picture the moment a subject smiles – no more saying “cheese” and getting those shots with awkward or fake grins”.

How cool is that?

I need to win and how cool would that be?

Sorry Joe, no pressure, I am just helping to spread the word on this too cool give away!

Breaking in a New Baseball Glove

June 23rd, 2008 · 2 Comments

This post is meant primarily for the single mom with a son who is new to Baseball and has a new Baseball KIWIglove. A Baseball glove is not ready out of the box or off the shelf so to speak. The Internet is loaded with ways to break in a new glove so I thought I had better toss my two cents into the array.

Whatever you do, do not stick it in the Microwave!

Somehow, somewhere along the way my son acquired a fairly new Rawlings Baseball Glove, I am not entirely sure where it came from but it needed broken in I had noticed after his first baseball practice two weeks ago. It has a nice curved shape to form a new pocket in but boy is it stiff and his little hand could barely squeeze it shut.

After searching the WWW for any new breakthroughs on this subject and there were not, I went to the grocery store and got some KIWI Outdoor Saddle Soap to start with.

First, I made sure the glove was clean, which it already was. Next, I applied a thin coat of KIWI all over the glove while concentrating on the pocket. At this point, it is tempting to take a hair dryer and melt the KIWI into the leather, but do not do this. I repeat do not do this as it can damage the glove to the point of needing to buy a new one, and you will be out the price of a new glove AND still have to break it in.

Instead, take an old clean cloth diaper you may still have on hand or any clean soft rag for that matter, and liberally Wet one corner. Take the rag to the glove at the pocket and work the KIWI in while working out to the thumb, fingers and heel of the glove while working the KIWI into lather. Slowdown and work the lather into the glove and when it has worked in rinse the cloth diaper out and dab at the KIWI polish tin to get some KIWI back on the cloth. Again, start at the pocket on both sides and work the KIWI into the leather. The leather may be dry and drink it up readily. After working over the whole glove and both sides, take a softball and place it in the pocket and fold all the fingers around the ball; next take an old belt that can cinch down small and cinch it around the glove holding the ball. Thrn set it aside out of the sunlight for 24 hours. After 24 hours remove the belt and ball and take a clean cloth diaper and clean up (rub in) any KIWI residue.

At this point, throw a ball into the pocket or play catch until 50 balls are caught. Rework the pocket and glove with KIWI then cinch it up another 24 hours while holding the softball. Repeat playing catch then repeat the KIWI cinch and catch cycle until you like the way the glove feels.

Soon the glove will be a cherished old friend!

June 11th, 2008 · 2 Comments

We are the Red Cardinals, Dakota is no.1. They have Colorado Rockies hats and there is discussion as to if it stands for the Colorado Rockies or Castle Rock.  He is batting Right and throwing Right at this point.  Everybody hits per inning, no outs or score is kept and everybody plays Outfield with some work on throwing to First Base.  Greg from his Soccer team is also on the team.  These are thumbnail photos, click em to see a bigger copy.

My Good Downhill Slide

June 11th, 2008 · 2 Comments

My SlideMy weight is 159.5, down from a whopping 202 on News Years Day, I am still working on the tiny Dunlop around my waist.  I’m not sure if it’s real or not and if I’m the only one who can see it.  It’s there me thinks…  No, I know its there!  If you can pinch it, it’s there.

I think I saw something like that on 20/20  or 60 Minutes once, years ago.

So Go Head, Check This Out

June 10th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Checkout these photos. I am using Lightbox2 technology and that makes viewing photos too cool.

I am trying to brush up on my web skills for my photo/web journalist job next week.  I could go on and on but I would rather be posting new photos from living our life than just some old Cancun photos, although that was too sweet!   I just have to now resize the original so it fits without too much scroling, so tune into this same MHD channel at this same MHD time and see what has transpired!  Don’t forget to click on the word “Close” at the bottom of the image to brighten the screen back up.  I know, I know image resize, but hey, I’m tired and it’ll have to wait.

I am just a dad with a bad case of GEEK!

So go head, click on a thumbnail image, I dare ya!

Where’s the Justice?

June 9th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Gas is $3.89 a gallon in Castle Rock, CO.Castle Rock
We are biking a bunch more when possible.
<<WARNING Adult content ahead>>
Makes me think back when the at the time, President was getting Lewinsky’d, gas was less than a buck a gallon but people were having a problem Hilary’s husband and wanted to impeach him. We were respected around the world and the economy was good.
Now our President, “W” is on the so called “straight and narrow”, gas is over 4 bucks a gallon and America is buying it and only now starting to get vocal about it; and we get no world respect.

Where is the justice?

Makes me think they should give Monica her job back, tell her where “W”. is and then maybe the US will get respect in the world once again, Americans will have paper coin in the pocket and “W”. will have a grin!

OK, I’ll get off the paltform mow!
